Today's edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport chronicles AC Milan, starting from the last scudetto derby up to current events.
The last time a derby was worth so much, Inter came from the extraordinary treble of the previous year, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic's first AC Milan was more than determined to break the Nerazzurri's dominance.
From that match, which ended 3-0 in favor of the Rossoneri, the unstoppable scudetto sprint started for Massimiliano Allegri's team at the time.
After ten years, the leader still remains the Swede. Between one stage and another, however, there are years of corporate indecision and several changes on the bench.
After the Scudetto in 2011, with Antonio Conte's Juventus triumphed in 2021. From here on, an ordeal that seemed endless, with Silvio Berlusconi leaving the club in the hands of the mysterious Chinese broker Yonghong Li.
A huge €303 million euros loan from the Elliott fund was required to complete the deal. A management not exceptional to put it mildly, with pharaonic expenses that did not bring any results.
Elliott's AC Milan, on the other hand, started its course with the signings of Lucas Paqueta and Gonzalo Higuain.
Then the turnaround, with the focus on the consolidation of the accounts and the primary project of the new stadium together with Inter.
Ivan Gazidis has significantly lowered the salary ceiling and ended the purchasing campaign with a positive balance of 25 million euros. This is an unprecedented event for the past 6 years.
As always, however, the pitch will have its say for the matches. The purchase of young talents accompanied by elements of experience seems to work well, the path may be the right one.
In between, however, a winding road also passed by Leonardo, Boban and Gattuso. Without forgetting Ralf Rangnick; a shadow cast out by Stefano Pioli only thanks to the construction of a top Milan team in just two months.
