The Italian transfer guru Gianluca Di Marzio has spoken through the microphones of Sky Sport 24 about the contractual situation of AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and confirmed the Rossoneri's interest on France International Mike Maignan. Here are his words:
“There is a stalemate that worries the Milan fans. Milan's offer was higher than the current engagement, it should be emphasized. In the era of Covid, Donnarumma earns 6 million and Milan offered him 7. He is a '99, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, his agent says 'Someone like him can go to earn 10-11 million from another side'. He doesn't know, but he tries. So now there is a phase of difficulty, let's see if this agreement can be found in the next few days. Then a big club like Milan cannot be caught unprepared and must start looking a bit at the European level which profiles can be used in the case. Maignan has been identified, Lille's French goalkeeper's [contract is] expiring in 2022. He is very strong, has a contractual deadline that makes the operation quite easy in the case, around 12-13 million. He is a player [they] can take, relations between Lille and Milan are very good after the Leao operation. Should an agreement not be found with Donnarumma, Milan's first choice is the Lille goalkeeper”.
