Former Rossoneri club member Massimo Oddo spoke to Milan TV during an interview on Monday. News outlets have frantically been covering the breaking news regarding a new European Super League. When Oddo was asked about the league, he had this to say:
"This move for me is spot on, football must become sustainable and it isn't. Eight or nine years ago I wrote an essay on the subject when I graduated from DS, but in this essay I wrote that an institution like UEFA needs to be at the head of everything, otherwise it becomes a dictatorship. It takes an entity above all that it directs,".
The former player seems to be in favor of the breakaway league opportunity for Milan, but is wary of the governing body. The league provides the opportunity for large clubs to play each other on a weekly basis, providing football fans top level competition every week, but the management of the league could be a slippery slope. UEFA has already publicly denounced the idea of this league, and will ban any member from future UEFA events. FIFA too has matched UEFA's threat. Oddo's vision of a UEFA run super league does not appear possible in today's climate. The proposed super league is made up of chair members from varying large clubs, which worries Oddo, and others, as he feels it could become a "dictatorship".
