Alessio Romagnoli, captain and centre back of AC Milan, has a contract that is set to expire on June 30th, 2022.
La Gazzetta dello Sport's website dedicated a long article in which they discussed the Italian centre-back's situation. They highlight that it would be interesting to see how the last four matches of the season end.
In addition to Romagnoli, Pioli has Simon Kjaer and Fikayo Tomori.
The fact that with Benevento Milan obtained a clean sheet (which did not happen since last March 7 , Verona-Milan 0-2 , coincidentally the last game as Romagnoli's starter before the stop), has helped the biorhythm of the Rossoneri captain and, perhaps, also Pioli's ideas.
In the post-match of the match against Benevento, Romagnoli spoke and explained: "I would always like to play, then the coach makes the choices. As long as I'm here, I'm ready to give my all. The important thing is whoever plays gives his soul. If my future passes through the Champions League? I have another year on my contract, these are questions for the managers and not for me."
The next question that comes to mind after that statement is about Romagnoli's renewal. His agent, who also in this case is Mino Raiola, to renew that the salary of his client increases from 3.5 to 5 million euros net per season. Therefore: either an agreement is found, in some way, or the Rossoneri will find themselves forced to put Romagnoli on the market in the summer. This is to avoid the risk like what is happening with Donnarumma now.
For La Gazzetta dello Sport, Romagnoli's words are rather lapidary and perhaps even fatalistic. That 'while I'm here', in fact, would define the uncertainty of the moment and the awareness that anything could happen from June onwards.
