Mike Maignan officially joined AC Milan yesterday as he is set to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma who will depart as a free agent because contract renewal talks were not successful.
The French goalkeeper, interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, explains what made him join the Rossoneri:
"I chose Milan after talking with Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara. I liked their project because it was big and ambitious which suits me perfectly. That is why I decided to sign here, but also because after so much time and emotions at Lille, it was time for a change."
On the AC Milan team:
"Milan are a great team and it is normal that there is more pressure here than at Lille. Donnarumma? He remains an important player in the club's history. I just want to do my job and give my all for this shirt."
On Zlatan Ibrahimovic:
"I already had a good relationship when I played with Zlatan. I know he will welcome me well here. There is a good team here and I don't think that there will be a problem settling in. I also thank Rafael Leao, whom I have heard from in these days."
On the choice to choose Milan:
"First of all, Milan is one of the greatest clubs in the world, with a great history and a great palmares, built also thanks to great players. As a boy, I always followed Milan matches. I also talked about Serie A with Rabiot. The Italian one is a very tactical championship and the training is very intense, even physically. Therefore, it is ideal for those who, like me, want to keep improving, even mentally, a very important aspect. In this regard, I think I have made a lot of progress in the last two years."
On what Maldini told him:
"I cannot tell everything in detail about what we have talked about, but I understand that the project is really ambitious and will allow me to continue my progress. I also know that I can also bring something more to this team."
