After being announced as a new rossonera, Spanish defender Laia Codina gave an exclusive interview to Milan TV and shed some light on her expectations, her idols and her playing style.
Here are her words:
On the move to Milan:
“I am very happy because I think I'm joining a club with a lot of history and that is always a good sign. I’m looking forward to start the new season and achieve our goals.”
On her expectations:
“I want to grow as a footballer but, above all, as a person. I think it is the perfect environment to continue growing and go further.”
On her playing style:
“I love to defend. I'm a very aggressive player on the field who likes to lead the defense but, at the same time, I like to have the ball at my feet. I come from Barcelona, where the ball is fundamental, so I’m a combination of everything.”
On her idols:
“Since I was a child my idol has always been Carlos Puyol, the captain of Barcelona, and then, as player, I have been lucky enough to play next to Mapi, María León, Barcelona‘s centre-back, and for me she is someone I look up to”
On her fantastic season with Barcelona:
“I am lucky to have won the Champions League this last year and not just the Champions League, but the whole year was great, we won the treble. I think it is obviously a year to remember.”
On playing in the Champions League:
“First of all, I think it’s must very clear that when you are in the Champions League, it is a very serious competition that in any match everything can happen, and it doesn’t matter who you’re playing against. During the week, in the preparations, you have to always be very focused and prepare yourself very well to the game, knowing that you cannot make any mistake, even the smallest could get you knocked out.”
On her debut:
“I’m eager to debut and play well for Milan. It is like I said, a very historic club and it is very important to play well on my debut and after it”
