Lorenzo Insigne, 30, is Napoli's undisputed star and one of the fan favourites. The winger is highly appreciated and is an added asset to coach Spalletti.
The winger's contract is set to expire in June 2022. However, there is no agreement yet on a new deal.
According to what Calciomercato.com has reported, the negotiation between Insigne and Napoli for an extension has stalled. It is a difficult operation, but not impossible. There is always a risk of losing the player on a free. Insigne wants a salary of 5 million euros in order to pen a new deal. But, De Laurentiis does not want to go beyond 3.5 million euros. For the record, the Italian forward currently earns 4.6 million euros.
The idea for the club owner and president, De Laurentiis, is a contract renewal 'à la Messi'. Meaning, a reduced engagement but spread over several years, in a longer contract.
On the other hand, though, 'the sale of image rights is not a viable path, for which De Laurentiis does not intend to move an inch from. Insigne will listen and report to his agent, who is ready to look at other offers' writes the source.
In this sense, AC Milan, would not be making any transfer attempt for Insigne, despite having a 'chat' in april. Paolo Maldini likes Insigne very much, but not under the high figures that the 30-year-old winger asks for. Moreover, Milan does not want to go to war with Napoli and a contract offer could be proposed only in case of non-renewal. But, at that point, the player would also attract many other suitors besides the Rossoneri club.
