Pioli: “Leao was unlucky today. The team showed signs of growth”

AC Milan take home three important points after difficult and complicated win against Spezia.

Coach Stefano Pioli can be satisfied to witness the growth and maturity of his boys. He said the following words to Milan TV:

"I'm very happy for Maldini. He knows he still has to grow. He has the talent to grow further. He can be better in the unmarking."

On the choices in the attacking department:

"When I make the choices he doesn't have an identity card in his hand. They are guys who are committed and know what a team means, they are Milan players and they are strong. We can also expect some mistakes from children not yet fully mature in their growth, it can be normal."

On Rafael Leao's performance:

"Rafa is a much more available and involved player, he was unlucky today but very effective in the final phase, he nearly scored. He has the qualities to create numerical superiority."

On recoveries:

"I don't know, let's see tomorrow. We will do what we can with this spirit and these resources against a very strong, experienced opponent such as Atlético Madrid. They are used to great games and who often wins them in the last minutes. There will be an important performance to put in. Allow me in my name and in the name of the whole team to greet Ivan Gazidis, we hear from him often, we feel him close to us. We hope to embrace him again soon. Indeed, I am sure that we will embrace him again soon and we will be even stronger together."

On the importance of the win today:

"It is very important, this is the demonstration that winning in Serie A is complicated. Today Spezia closed the spaces and started again, we have not stopped being a team and believing in our chance to win. We were able to pick up the pace and react. Winning with this nastiness and competitive desire is a sign of an important growth of this team. I have seen players who have put their soul and heart but really fell tired like Rebic, Rafa and Diaz. I have depth in the squad, I hope to have even more after the break. Everyone is needed, with this quality and these changes there is a better chance of winning," concluded Pioli.
