Alessio Romagnoli, although not a regular starter anymore for coach Stefano Pioli in the lineup, is still a solid centre-back option as he provides a good rotation choice.
The Italian defender, formerly at AS Roma, is the team's captain and has a contract which is due to expire at the end of the current season.
The player currently earns a high salary which is at 6 million euros. AC Milan want to keep the Rossonero number 13, but at lower wages than that.
According to what is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport in today's print edition, Il Diavolo club board and Romagnoli will start the negotiation talks without including the agent Mino Raiola who is supposed to represent the 26-year-old captain.
There are still difficulties in the extension talks, and for now, AC Milan management and Romagnoli are holding the discussions. The club management is currently offering a yearly net salary of 3.5 million euros.
