Andriy Shevchenko, former AC Milan legendary striker and now turned coach, had a warm welcome by the fans at the San Siro stadium. His side played very well but it was not enough to stop Pioli's men from going through to the next round in Coppa Italia.
The decent performance did not convince the Genoa board who decided to relieve him of his position as coach. Here is the official statement:
"Genoa CFC announces that coach Andriy Shevchenko has been relieved of his post. The Club thanks the coach and his staff for the hard work they have done in recent months. The technical leadership of the First Team will be temporarily entrusted to Mr. Abdoulay Konko, assisted by Roberto Murgita."
Abdoulay Konko is now is a former French player who had a long career in Italy, playing for Genoa, Juventus, Lazio and Atalanta.
