England's tactician, Gareth Southgate, will have to make his squad selection in view of the coming friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast. What will be difficult for him is choosing the right profiles as he has a wide pool of talent to choose from.

The Athletic today explain how Fikayo Tomori has absolutely earned his chance to be in the Three Lions team thanks to his performances with AC Milan.

James Horncastle writes that the former Chelsea defender, who is highly rated by Paolo Maldini for his skills in 1 on 1 situations should be there for a number of reasons. In fact, the 24-year-old central defender has played a big role in Milan's current ranking in the league:

"Tomori has been integral to the team’s transition from refreshingly competitive feel-good story to genuine contenders for the scudetto. Back-to-back clean sheets have enabled Milan to put more daylight between themselves and champions and city rivals Inter, and Tomori has been unflappable. His centre-back partner has changed three times. He has come back from knee surgery in double-quick time and has barely put a foot wrong."

The article even goes on to pose the question that has been on the minds of many people, how can Southgate ignore the impressive and talented defender of the Rossoneri? The Athletic writes that it is 'baffling' to know that Tomori, 24, has only played 36 minutes for England in games against Kosovo in 2019 and Andorra in 2021.
