Former AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati spoke to SportWeek about Mike Maignan and Gianluigi Donnarumma:
"Maignan? I'll be honest I had never seen him play. When he arrived I went to browse on YouTube but afterwards I saw him live against Juventus and in the return derby. I really like him for his confidence and personality which he shows not only in goal but throughout the penalty area."
"He participates in team play, rarely throws the ball away and moves in harmony with the defenders. I am struck by his great agility, his parades on Cabral and Hernani. His reflexes and very short reaction times, as well as the muscular elasticity that allow him to always have a good position. At 26, however, he still has room for improvement. Perfect for Pioli's Milan. Dida and Ragno told me that Mike likes to work a lot, he has a Milan mentality."
Abbiati on Gianluigi Donnarumma:
"If I were in his shoes? I would not have left because Milan is my city and I was already in a great team. Maybe Donnarumma was in a hurry to win. He did it even if the goal was the Champions League. He had to share the spot with Navas but his choice must be respected."
