RedBird are set to close in on the purchase of the majority of AC Milan's shares soon, as per multiple reports. Tuttosport takes stock of the situation and focuses on the personality that is Gerry Cardinale, owner of the American company which wants to invest in the club.
The Italian newspaper report a previous quote of Cardinale: "With moneyball, the results are guaranteed. We have carried out in-depth studies and there is no need to spend large sums to win trophies."
Gerry Cardinale of RedBird believes a lot in this method and philosophy that he involved Billy Beane (the character played by Brad Pitt in movie of "Moneyball") in the shareholding of RedBall, the corporate vehicle with which RedBird bought 10% of 'Fenway Sports Group', the American group that controls the Liverpool.
The Reds are the most successful example of American ownership in European football. They have always kept away from the sprees of Manchester City, Chelsea or Paris Saint Germain. It is no coincidence that Cardinale has made this link precisely with the ownership of Liverpool and now purchases AC Milan which already follows a similar strategy with Elliott.
Interestingly, too, the volume of assets is similar. Fenway Sports Group manages $ 7 billion. So it is not necessary to have very high volumes behind you to excel in football. Even if Milan cannot count on the much higher revenues from which a Premier League club benefits.
