AC Milan French forward Olivier Giroud, has released an interview to the microphones of the Serie A YouTube channel. In view of the derby, he had the following words to say:
"My brace in the derby was a turning point in last season. I think that things have changed with that win. It drove us on to win that Scudetto. Because had we lost that game, the dream would've died there and then."
Giroud added:
"It was just crazy. I'm also really proud because the dynamic with the fans was really special for this game. In Italy everything happens so quickly. We'd only just won the 2021/22 Scudetto and the fans are asking me when are we going to win our 20th. I said that we'd wait a bit and enjoy this Scudetto and that we'd see what happens the following season."
On the second star target:
"We're fired up to get this second star. I didn't know that Inter had won 19 league titles. That's why this second star is so important to the fans: so we'll have to get it before they do"
On watching Milan in the past:
"I was a big Milan fan when I was a kid. Sheva was my favourite player. It was a childhood dream of mine, to win Serie A wearing the same shirt that he wore."
On the derby, Giroud said:
"The Milan derby is special. Obviously, I've played in derbies in London before. There's perhaps more pressure and tension here. I'm there to help the youngsters who maybe aren't used to this kind of game."
On Rafael Leao:
"Rafa Leao is one of the best youngsters I've played alongside. I try to not big him up so much because he still needs to work more. He's still got time to learn and kick on to the next level, and maybe the level after that, too."
Giroud on the derby again:
"It'll be a tough and demanding derby with two teams who want to win. We know that it's a special game for the fans. I think that it'll be a crazy derby."
