Former AC Milan goalkeeper and also ex goalkeeper coach during last season, Nelson Dida, has spoken to Tuttosport about Mike Maignan. Here are his words:
"We knew we had a goalkeeper with great potential in our hands but this last year at Milan, he has grown even more. He is doing very well with the Rossoneri shirt on."
He added:
"In the derby, he has once again proved his worth. But even last year his saves contributed to AC Milan's Scudetto victory. I'm happy for him because he continues to show a great desire to win. Even in this he is not a goalkeeper like all the others."
When Maignan first arrived at Milan...
"The first year, at the beginning he struggled a bit to understand Italian football. It took him a while to adjust. But now with an extra year of experience, knowing the opponents, knowing the players, I think he can have even more confidence in his means."
Dida on the Milan team:
"This Milan, with young talents, still has a lot of quality to express. If they succeed, it will be difficult for everyone to deal with this team. Even more difficult than it is now. In Europe, however, a bit of personality is lacking but the team will gain even more confidence going forward. The Champions League is completely different from the Italian league. You need to have a different mental approach."
Dida on Charles De Ketelaere and the comparison with Kakà:
"It is too early to say, he has just arrived in Italy and must have time to get used to Italian football. A football different from all the others. It takes a period of acclimatization to demonstrate his qualities. We must not be in a hurry. He has a bit of Kakà's shots, but it's not easy to make comparisons with Ricky because he has shown his great qualities right from the start."
