AC Milan former central defender, Alessandro Nesta, has granted an interview to the microphones of Il Corriere della Sera. Here are his words, published in the newspaper's today's print edition:
"We need new stadiums. We can't wait any longer. When you see the parked bus from the field it means that something is wrong. Without the stadiums we will never be at the Premier League's level, not even close. Revenues are the starting point. Then everything grows: more revenues, more important players, more quality."
Nesta on Stefano Pioli's work:
"I am honest, I have always considered him an excellent coach, already at Lazio and Fiorentina, but I never imagined that he was so good. He did a very great feat."
He continued:
"Milan can open an era. Last year, they won by surprise but with merit. Now, they can repeat themselves. Players, personality, experience: the second star is within reach, I was more skeptical last year. The team has grown. And then the others are in trouble. I imagine a head to head with Napoli. They are the teams with the clearest ideas: club, coach, players. There is a precise planning", declared Nesta.
On Pierre Kalulu and Fikayo Tomori playing together in the central defence area:
"They are modern, have courage, play high and are not afraid of one on one situations. Of course, if they were Italian it would be better for the national team, but that's not the case."
Nesta on former Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli:
"In any case, he played at a high level at Milan for several years. Then new defenders arrived and he played less there. He made a choice of heart, he returned home, to an important club, with a coach who makes his teams play well. For me, he did well."
