Rafael Leao's renewal continues to be a difficult situation for the AC Milan club directors. The player's entourage ask for a high net salary and there is also the issue of the legal dispute between the player and Sporting Lisbon that makes the affair complicated.
As pointed out by Calciomercato.com, the Portuguese forward owes around 16 million euros to his old club for the unilateral termination of the contract in 2018, which became 19 with interest.
Today, Leao earns around 2 million euros net per season, including bonuses. Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are in constant dialogues with Jorge Mendes and French lawyer Ted Dimvula regarding the renewal front. But for now, there are no meetings planned in the coming weeks.
Rafael Leao, for his part, is happy to be here. He has spent time with the fans after the game against Dinamo Zagreb in Croatia, a positive signal that the Milanese management took note of. We'll see if, in the coming months, any positive updates shall arrive or not. The negotiations will resume in January 2023.
