AC Milan's technical director, Paolo Maldini, spoke to the microphones of DAZN following the win against Fiorentina at the San Siro. Here are his statements:
"A Victory would change everything and that's what we were interested in. We achieved it without a harmonious game and things that have contradicted this football year, but we wanted to win. If players were thinking about the World Cup? We have many who are going: Giroud running until the end and Dest who is back from injury and showed determination. He made himself available. We have two points less than last year, there is Napoli who have done incredible things."
Maldini continued:
"We have to maintain this enthusiasm. The goal at the end? Anything could happen in the end. The risk was there. A draw was a half defeat. We tried. Willpower makes you do things that are not studied but it does a lot."
On Charles De Ketelaere:
"He is suffering from this situation. It is a different environment. He has a lot of knowledge compared to what he did in Belgium. He has a 5-year contract and we look forward to the future. Just like Origi who has a 4-year contract. They have everything to be decisive we are waiting for them. We have many examples of players who took a little while to understand what it means to play for Milan."
On chasing Napoli:
"Do we believe in the run-up to Napoli? Yes. Last year we were seven points behind Inter. It is not easy to keep this pace until the end. We need to be more decisive. At this moment, we are a little empty of energy."
Maldini on Zlatan Ibrahimovic:
"He's good. Let's hope that he returns in January."
