La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition dedicated a space to talk about the new stadium project situation. This discussion has been open for 3 years already and it has not yet been concretely started due to bureaucratic delays and other issues.
The two Milanese clubs have always declared their intention to continue sharing the stadium together, a rarity in today's European football: in all major cities such as London, Barcelona, Manchester, Madrid, each team has its own stadium. The reasons are mainly financial.
In fact, the Cathedral project, which now risks not seeing the light of day due to the constraint, would cost 600 million euros: unaffordable costs alone. Therefore, even if Sesto San Giovanni (which is plan B) were activated, it seems unlikely that the two clubs would separate, as relayed by Milan News.
