As per reports from German outlet Sport1, AC Milan is said to be targeting Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud for the upcoming summer transfer window. The 24-year-old, who was born in Syria but plays for Germany at the international level, has been with Dortmund since 2017 when he joined from Borussia Monchengladbach. However, it seems his time with the black and yellow team is coming to an end, as his contract is set to expire on June 30, and Dortmund has decided not to renew it.
Sporting director Sebastian Kehl confirmed that the decision was made after an open and honest conversation with Dahoud. "He has been with us for six years now, he is a very good player, and I have a very high opinion of him both professionally and personally. However, we have decided to take this step."
Despite the news of his departure, Dahoud is committed to Dortmund for the remainder of the season and has expressed his gratitude to the club. Speaking to Sport1, he promised to give his all whenever called upon by coach Edin Terzić. Looking ahead, he is eager for a new challenge and hopes to continue playing at a high level in one of the top leagues. "My agents are taking care of it. I am a football player. This is my goal. Whatever happens in the summer, happens in the summer."
As reported by the German outlet, Dahoud is also being targeted by Napoli in Serie A besides AC Milan. The Rossoneri are searching for a backup for Algerian midfielder Ismael Bennacer. Additionally, La Liga side Sevilla and Premier League outfit Leicester City in England are reportedly interested in the midfielder.
Dahoud, 27, is a right-footed talent who can be useful for Pioli's system. The player, however, only featured in 6 appearances so far, with 281 minutes played across all competitions.
