The renewal of Rafael Leao's contract will be announced very soon, and the French side Lille will unlock the negotiations by choosing to pay the fine that the French club and the player had to pay to Sporting Lisbon for terminating his contract in 2019.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) had confirmed the compensation amount to be 16.5 million euros, plus interest, which has now reached 21 million euros. According to RMC Sport, however, the Lille club was encouraged by AC Milan to facilitate the unlocking of the Portuguese player's contract renewal.
In fact, according to the French news outlet mentioned above, Lille will pay Sporting 20 million euros of the €21 million required, while Leao will be responsible for paying approximately 1 million euros in legal fees. The news is that AC Milan will reimburse the French club for 90% of the amount paid to Sporting in the future, which amounts to around 18 million euros (thanks to any future sale of Leao).
