AC Milan may have found the right area on which to build its new stadium alone, separately from Inter. It's the San Francesco area in San Donato Milanese, and the Rossoneri have taken the first formal step by signing an agreement concerning the transfer of urban permits with SportLifeCity, which owns the area, which ffectively officially iniciates the procedure that could lead to the construction of the new stadium.
La Repubblica reports that it will be a 60,000-seat stadium surrounded by various attractions, such as the museum of the Rossoneri club, and other activities, and the construction must be below the 180,000 square meters imposed by the Territorial Government Plan. This means that there will be no room to relocate the Milanello sports center near the stadium, which was the original hypothesis imagined for the Maura stadium. Already next week, there could be further meetings between Milan and the Municipality of San Donato to solidify the project.
The words of Mayor Francesco Squeri confirm that this area is currently the most appealing for Milan:
"The feeling, for now, is that Milan considers the San Francesco area very interesting. The initiation of the procedure does not imply certainty that the stadium will be built in San Donato at the moment. Milan has not yet decided. We are in a preliminary phase, and the team still needs to present the project to us. We are moving forward with bureaucracy to determine its feasibility. Only with the project in hand can we involve all the relevant authorities: from the Metropolitan City, to the State Railways, to the Region, to the Municipality of Milan."
