Undici magazine has published an interview with AC Milan defender Pierre Kalulu, who will begin his journey in the Under-21 European Championship with France today. The 23-year-old player, talked about his passion for fashion, but also about AC Milan and the Scudetto triumph in the 2021-2022 season. Here are his words:
"Honestly, we weren't afraid before Sassuolo-Milan. There was a bit of that usual adrenaline, the one you have before every match, but we knew we had worked well during the week and throughout the season, and we were calm. There was no more tension than usual."
On his relationship with Paolo Maldini:
"Maldini helped me understand how much football matters in Italy. The support is crazy, people really love you. When we played away, he was always the most acclaimed, even though he stopped playing more than ten years ago."
On his arrival in Italy, Kalulu said:
"When I arrived at Milan, not only had I never played as a professional before, but I hadn't played football for a long time at all because of the pandemic. I hadn't been on the field since March. I didn't think about the pressure or the fact that I was being paid little. I just said: finally, I can play football again."
On his growth:
"I have grown in every aspect. I am stronger, faster, freer in my mind, things come more naturally to me."
Kalulu, what are the areas where you can still improve and grow?
"In everything! I could be more determined especially in aerial duels, and I can always read the game better. That makes a difference at a high level."
On his position on the field:
"To be perfect, you have to be able to play anywhere. It helps you a lot: if you want to be a starter at a big club, you have to be able to help the team where it needs it."
On playing style:
"You have to be aggressive both in the attacking and defensive phases, you have to have the desire to control the game and not just endure it. I really like this type of football."
