As per what is reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan's Luka Jovic may have his first start this season. The coach, Stefano Pioli, is set to give him a chance today against Genoa in order to grant some rest to Olivier Giroud who is 37 years old.
The Serbian striker has only played a total of 38 minutes so far: 13 minute against Inter in the big derby loss and 25 minutes against Hellas Verona. He is now ready for a proper debut.
He will be positioned as a center forward in the 4-3-3 formation, replacing Olivier Giroud. Unless there are last-minute changes, Samuel Chukwueze and Noah Okafor will act alongside Jovic in Genoa-Milan. This means a completely new offensive trio at the 'Luigi Ferraris' stadium. Pioli will approach the game with this lineup by not fielding any of his key goal-scorers. However, evidently, the fatigue from the Dortmund match in the Champions League is being felt.
The match against Genoa is definitely not an easy one, especially since it's away from home. Napoli, the reigning Italian champions, held a draw at the Marassi stadium while Roma fell 4-1 against them. AC Milan, however, must find the win no matter the obstacles. They cannot afford to lose points.
Therefore, Jovic is called to deliver a great performance: Pioli believes in him, believes in that young man who sparkled at Eintracht Frankfurt before struggling in Real Madrid and also facing difficulties at Fiorentina. After Benfica and 'Los Blancos', Milan is Jovic's third major opportunity in a top club: now is the time to reverse the negative trend; he can no longer afford to make a mistake.
