Rafael Leao spoke at a press conference organized yesterday by the Portuguese national team directly from their training camp ahead of Friday's match against Slovakia, valid for qualification for the next Euro competition. Here are his statements.
"Would I like to become captain of the national team too? Yes, of course, it would be a very important moment for me, for my career and for my family. Representing the national team is a source of pride, even more so with the captain's armband. I don't know, who knows. But it would be a source of great pride for me."
Leao added:
"Do I feel like I should be a starter given how much I do at Milan? As I always say, I am very happy to be here, I have the trust of my coach. It's up to the coach to decide. I always give my best. If I don't get a spot, it's not something that saddens me because we have a wide range of quality players. I'm here and I'm here to help. Return to the Dragão? It's clearly a special stadium: I made my league debut for Sporting and also for the national team in the playoffs. It will be an incredible help and a very important factor for Friday's match."
