Today in Via Rosellini in Milan, the headquarters of Lega A, the opening of the envelopes containing the bids for Serie A TV rights from the upcoming season onwards is scheduled. It's a moment that will determine whether the interested TV networks (DAZN, Sky, Mediaset) will meet the demands of Lega, or if the latter will decide to embark on the path leading to a proprietary channel.
"At first, everything depends on the offers (clubs hope for improvement) from DAZN, Sky, and Mediaset, which will lead to the assignment from the 2024/2025 season onwards only if deemed satisfactory. The alternative is for Lega to go independent with the channel, subsequently opening the envelopes of potential partners, or including it among the proposals in the market in a hybrid formula. Perhaps then granting the rights to Sky for satellite and keeping the Saturday match also available on Mediaset in clear, one of the innovations that emerged from the beginning of the negotiations for the assignment."
Currently, before the betting controversy erupted, which certainly impacts the image of Serie A, the offers have not exceeded 870 million euros, a figure considered low. The aim is to raise it to at least 930 million, the amount guaranteed for the previous three years, which seems to be the minimum acceptable offer to sell the rights for the next five years (until 2028/29).
