The betting scandal in Italian football continues to unfold. The newspaper 'La Verita', has interviewed Fabrizio Corona's source, the uncle of the former Inter Primavera player Antonio Esposito: Maurizio Petra.
Petra handed over a USB drive to his lawyer containing audio files and documents that supposedly hold further evidence related to his testimonies about the match-fixing scandal. In the event of Petra's demise, it has been arranged for this to be passed on to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Turin.
In the interview, Esposito's uncle also disclosed some of the most crucial elements from the audio recordings and mentioned new names, including Nicolò Barella from Inter. His statement:
"In one of the audio recordings, you can clearly hear the voices of Antonio (Esposito) and Zaniolo conversing, according to my nephew, with other Serie A players. One of them has an accent that sounds Portuguese... they clearly talk about placed bets, sums won and lost, substantial amounts. In response to a specific question from Antonio, those present mention the names Lamela, Gyasi, and Barella, including Niccolò (Zaniolo). You can hear Antonio say: 'Be careful, if they catch you, you're screwed' or something like that."
