In the 'Lega' assembly today, Paolo Scaroni has spoken to the media and said these important statements:
"The shareholders' meeting went very well. We approved a positive balance sheet of 6 million and specifically that it does not concern summer market operations. It is an ordinary result, it hasn't happened for I don't know how many years. We have a turnover 400 million, double compared to when I arrived. The Champions League was a key factor: around 100 million come from there."
Scaroni added:
"Stadium? I've also seen that Mayor Sala is working to remove this pre-announcement of constraint. I view these moves with some regret. If the city administration had embraced the project four years ago and made it their own, we would have already built it. We had two clubs ready to finance it, but now the mayor is struggling. I don't know what will happen, but as long as this constraint stands, the San Siro option doesn't exist."
Scaroni continued:
"San Donato? We've submitted the variant hypothesis, it will take some time. We're evaluating financing options, but there's no rush because we'll have to wait for the response on the variant."
He added:
"Leao in the budget? This complicated negotiation with Sporting and Lille was handled by Furlani with great expertise. Without his ability, it would have been very difficult to reach the destination. In essence: we have a five-year renewal with Leao. For the mechanics of how we negotiated, we would need Furlani who is not here."
On renewals:
"We don't comment on market operations. We have a guiding principle that we follow: all the operations we do must be sustainable. In this context, we want to have the strongest players. When we approach renewals, we look at them from this perspective."
On the economic and sporting results:
"Economic results are influenced by sporting results. Last year, the home matches in the Champions League brought in revenues close to 10 million. Making 5-6 in this way would certainly allow for a different market. I hope all of this is possible."
Scaroni continued:
"I am satisfied not so much by what I do, but by what the people at Milan do. Since July 2018, a stormy day also for Milan. The economic results were catastrophic, the sporting ones mediocre. From there we started a path that led us to the results of recent years. It seems to me that we have built a team on all fronts. We've doubled the stadium revenues, those from sponsorships, improved merchandising. Without sporting results, none of this would be possible. The television rights obtained from UEFA this year were significant, around 85 million if I'm not mistaken."
On the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Milan as part of the club management:
"It's a question to ask him more than us. We have shown (Cardinale, Furlani and Scaroni) great availability and pleasure. He's a friend. Ibra has to decide what he wants to do. With us, the door is open, he's rightly facing a moment of reflection: a professional and geographical choice and where he wants to live. When he has made his choice, if there is room at Milan, we will evaluate how to proceed. We're waiting for him, in short."
