Stefano Pioli has spoken to the journalists in a press conference after the 3-0 loss in the match against Paris Saint-Germain at 'Parc des princes'. Here are his words:
"For an hour, we played the game we needed to play, we fought in many situations. We made a mistake and they scored. Then after the second goal, which should have been avoided, we knew that Paris takes corners in that way, the game changed. Then in the end, we recovered a bit, but ultimately we favoured PSG by giving space to quality players who created difficulties for us."
On the Champions League standings, Pioli said this:
"We're not in a good position. I hoped that Newcastle wouldn't beat Dortmund, which would give us some chances. The next clash with PSG will be decisive. Tonight I saw positive things but technically we need to be more precise. In the goal area is where we need to work more."
Regarding Luka Jovic:
"He felt something in the adductor. Will he recover for Napoli? I don't know, I haven't talked to him or the doctor yet."
On the Leao - Mbappé comparisons, what do you say?
"Mbappé is much more of a second striker, much more of striker. We're talking about the best player in the world, the other is someone who wants to become a high-level player", said Pioli, "I liked what I saw, of course if he had scored it would have been better. He always worked one-on-one against Marquinhos, who is a great defender. He should finish better, and every time he enters the box, he should lift his head just a little earlier to cross. We had many opportunities where we filled the penalty area."
A reaction after falling behind? Pioli said:
"Going down by two goals against a quality opponent isn't a bit easy. A couple of minutes before, we had the most important opportunity with Pulisic to equalise. So, it's normal to suffer a bit in the game. We weren't at their level, especially from a technical standpoint."
On Warren Zaire-Emery, PSG's young starlet:
"He seems like a very mature player, a midfielder with technique and change of pace, complete, very strong."
