Mike Maignan is one of the pillars of AC Milan. He confirmed himself immediately since his arrival to the club. But like the rest of the team, he's experiencing a difficult moment because the recent results are not positive.
The French goalkeeper did not have one of the best matches of his career, despite crucial saves on Di Lorenzo early in the second half and on Kvaratskhelia towards the end of the match, as well as a courageous exit in the first half to block a dangerous Napoli action. Many mistakes made his performance inadequate.
In fact, as pointed out by La Repubblica, the former Lille champion seemed "unusually unsure in positioning the wall and also in the dive" in Napoli's second goal (Raspadori's free-kick).
Already before, however, he had sent an unsettling signal with an imperfect exit and a general ball handling with his feet not at its best. Below are the ratings from different newspapers.
La Repubblica, 6: "Comes out in vain and concedes a goal on a free kick on his post, but avoids the last-minute humiliation."
La Gazzetta dello Sport, 5.5: "An evening of wobbles: an exit with the ball slipping away, the 2-1 avoidable. He gets back on track by repelling Di Lorenzo and especially Kvara in the 95th minute."
Tuttosport, 5.5: "Second half of work, he seems surprised by Raspadori's free kick. He redeems himself against Kvara in injury time."
Il Corriere dello Sport, 5.5: "Fails in the exit and Tomori saves him by deflecting a missile from Kvaratskhelia. And shortly after, he is not impeccable on Jack's free kick. Also a bit shaky with his feet, but secures the draw on Kvara's last scratch."
Il Corriere della Sera, 5.5: "Messes up on the fatal free kick: the wall, set up like that, serves no purpose."
For us at Milan Reports, Mike Maignan earned himself a 5.5 rating as well for his work.
