Andrea Pirlo, now the coach of Sampdoria in Serie B, gave a lengthy interview to Radio Serie A.
Here are his words about Milan:
"With Milan, I won everything, but the most beautiful victory was the first Champions League. We were almost all experiencing it for the first time and had been aiming for this goal since the start of the season, after winning a semifinal against Inter. Over the years, I had the chance to experience amazing emotions, thanks to my teammates who made every moment beautiful."
He then continues:
"The wound from the final in Istanbul is hard to heal. We won the following one, but at that moment, you don't think about future opportunities, and at that time, I even considered retiring. My journey with Milan didn't end as I had dreamed; I hoped to stay and still be useful. When I realized I wasn't seen as an important player anymore, I didn't hesitate to change teams. During that period, there was a policy offering only one-year contracts to players over 30. I was still young, and unable to reach an agreement, I went in a different direction."
