Geoffrey Moncada, AC Milan's director and its former chief of scouts, spoke to Milan TV after the victory against Newcastle. Here are his statements:
"It's a shame because we were really close to progressing to the next round; it was important for us. We reached 8 points like PSG. Maybe we should have done better in the first two games where we missed a few opportunities. Now we need to come back strong in the league. It's truly a shame for the Champions League because we came very close..."
He added:
"We've seen that this group has the right spirit. There were good substitutions, the coach made good changes, and those who came in immediately performed well. Okafor came in well, Jovic has been doing interesting things for five games. Chukwueze? I'm happy for him because he's a good guy who works hard, and I'm sure the future will be bright for us."
How to move forward? Moncada replied:
"We need to recover our defenders. We defeated a Premier League team playing with a left-back in the center-back role. When we have the full team, I think we'll return to the level seen in August and September."
Now, AC Milan will play in the Europa League competition:
"We must think positively because we remain in Europe. We must focus on doing well in this competition because it's a great one, and we have to play it well."
The fans are always close... Moncada answered:
"Our fans are always present and strong, I'm very happy with them. We want and must do more for them, we have to. Definitely."
