La Gazzetta dello Sport's newspaper this morning discussed once again the position of Stefano Pioli. According to the latest update, the gaffer is confirmed for now as the management would like him to remain until the end of the season. However, it should be noted that there is dissatisfaction regarding the results and also the injuries.
In the event that things deteriorate even more and Pioli is thus relieved of his duties as Milan's coach, there are two most probable hypotheses according to the newspaper.
The first leads to Antonio Conte. A high-profile coach, available in the market, inclined to return to coaching in Italy after experiences with Juventus, the Italian National Team, and Inter.
He is a coach who strongly confronts players when they lower their intensity: this is one of Milan's current issues. The problem, in this case, might be purely financial. Conte has earned a lot in recent years: would he accept a lower salary for a new challenge on Milan's bench? It's possible. However, he has always asked for players with high transfer fees and hefty salaries, ready to contribute immediately. While RedBird, so far, has approached things differently.
The second hypothesis, though, leads to an internal solution, Ignazio Abate. He is respected and is achieving good results this season with the Primavera squad. He could represent an interim solution, with the possibility of becoming something more, but the step between Primavera and Serie A is very high. For now, however, they're moving forward with Pioli.
