La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition today reports what could be the future of AC Milan, with confirmations and farewells.
Who stays for sure? Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Tijjani Reijnders, Yunus Musah, and Christian Pulisic landed at Milanello in the same summer, and the plan for the next one won't change: they will still wear the Rossoneri jersey, whether with the current coach or another.
Malick Thiaw and Ismael Bennacer will also remain. As for Davide Calabria, talks of renewal will begin at the end of the winter transfer market.
Big players who could leave Milan?
Rafael Leao is not for sale, but he has a release clause around 170 million euros: if someone were to seriously consider it.
On the other hand, the market of the last summer teaches us: Sandro Tonali seemed untouchable, but in the face of a monstrous offer like Newcastle's, things changed for everyone, the club, and the player.
The next market will be no exception: Milan's policy revolves around player trading, and in the notebooks of the top clubs in Europe, there are at least a couple of other Rossoneri stars: Mike Maignan is liked by Bayern and PSG, Theo Hernandez intrigues PSG as well.
Keep an eye on Fikayo Tomori too (next to whom Thiaw has grown, confirmed for the future): Fik has admirers all over Europe, much like what happened with the scudetto-winning Pierre Kalulu.
On the fence: the future of Alessandro Florenzi and Matteo Gabbia is less clear, while Simon Kjaer's seems far from Milan. The Danish's contract will expire at the end of the season, just like Olivier Giroud's: "With the club, we haven't discussed the renewal yet; I'll decide later, as a player and as a family man," said the Frenchman to Gazzetta in a recent interview. In case of farewell, the path leading to the American MLS is the hottest.
One thing is for sure, if Giroud stays, he'll have to share the area with another number 9: in the summer, Milan will invest mainly in the center-forward position.
Luka Jovic, under contract until June, observes, waits, and takes aim: if there's a way to stay with the AC Milan squad, it is to keep scoring goals.
