As Tuttosport writes this morning, for the AC Milan club, it's time to look forward and put away the disappointment of the Champions League from the first half of the season.
Stefano Pioli would like to convince the club to still bet on him for the next season, impose on the Rossoneri to believe they can go all the way. The path to victory, besides matters of prestige, also has significant economic reasons.
The earnings from a victory would have nothing to do with what came into the coffers with last season's Champions League semi-finals but would still represent a significant jackpot. The estimate, assuming a victorious Milan in Dublin in May, is around 35 million euros: 15 from winning the competition, 7-8 between historical ranking and market pool, approximately 11-12 from ticket sales. Furthermore, a victory in the Europa League would guarantee Milan a place in the European Super Cup, which would bring in another 3.5 million euros.
No rotations in the Europa League for Milan...
For these reasons, both sporting and economic, Pioli today says no to turnover. In the first leg against Rennes, valid for the playoffs that offer a place in the round of 16, the Rossoneri coach will field his best men, showing that Milan wants to try to win this competition. Therefore, in defense, there will be Gabbia and Kjaer, with Theo and Florenzi on the flanks. The midfield will see the return of Reijnders, who will be accompanied by Loftus-Cheek and Musah, who will be fielded instead of Adli and Bennacer.
The attack consists of heavyweights: the trio Pulisic-Giroud-Leao is called upon to make the difference and, if possible, to direct the double confrontation with the French from Brittany from this evening.
There will be many significant weapons on the bench who are familiar with the competition, including Okafor and Jovic, who will then have to be ready for Sunday's league match against Monza.
