AC Milan's legendary former coach, Arrigo Sacchi, has analysed the progress of both Brahim Diaz and Charles De Ketelaere with their respective teams after leaving the Rossoneri. He also mentioned Hakan Calhanoglu who is now with Inter.
Here are his words to La Gazzetta dello Sport:
"The wonder of Brahim Diaz with the Real Madrid shirt in the Champions League, De Ketelaere's constant growth with Atalanta, Calhanoglu's increasingly decisive role in the leading Inter. These are three reasons for regret for Milan, there is no doubt about it, because they were Rossoneri players who, for one reason or another, left. To these, if one wishes, Kessie and Paquetà could also be added, the former having just won the Africa Cup, and the latter playing steadily for Brazil. The last two mentioned, however, in my opinion, do not belong to the category of the greats."
Sacchi added:
"Diaz's case is quite simple. If Real lends you a player and sees that he is improving and can serve them, it's logical for them to take him back. Ancelotti explained to me that he has grown a lot in Italy, even from a physical point of view: it means that Milan worked well on him. The reasoning regarding De Ketelaere is different. He's playing very well at Atalanta, after a difficult season in red and black. This means that Maldini saw something in him: he wanted him at all costs and considered him a potential champion. The thing is, with foreigners, you need to be patient, but we Italians always expect the maximum without giving them time to integrate. Calhanoglu, finally, is a real regret, perhaps the biggest: he's proving to be a top-level playmaker."
