AC Milan suffered their fifth defeat in the league last Sunday when they lost away from home against Monza 4-2. Now, doubts are again emerging on Stefano Pioli's ability to lead the team next season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport in this morning's print edition has explained that the coach's future in Rossonero will probably depend on the Europa League path: reaching the end of the Europa League and lifting the trophy would completely change the prospects and evaluations of Pioli's season, potentially earning him confirmation.
On the other hand, though, without triumph in the Europa League, Pioli would then be relieved of his duties.
An immediate reaction is needed from the next commitment, which is the Europa League playoff return leg at Rennes' home: they will start from the 3-0 lead from the first leg at San Siro, a certainly reassuring advantage, but on Thursday in France, an important response is needed after the defeat in Monza.
It remains to be seen who Stefano Pioli will field, given the delicate moment; he might be forced to rely on almost all the regular starters since, once again, the reserves have not provided the expected answers.
