Alessandro Costacurta, former Milan defender and now a a pundit for Sky, analyzes the characteristics of Italian teams in terms of their European journey and performances for Corriere dello Sport:
"I remember my Milan: in Europe, we felt at home and thanks to our international journey, we built a winning DNA. Despite structural limitations, Roma and Milan are on this path. A finalist will emerge from their challenge, but Liverpool is superior and we'll have to deal with that. Leverkusen also plays great football."
Were you expecting more from Italian teams in the Champions League?
"Inter missed an opportunity, Milan did the same against Newcastle and Dortmund, Lazio and Napoli clashed with two giants. Last year we were lucky, this year unlucky. In my opinion, however, the gap with the best has decreased despite worse results."
