Last week, AC Milan's goalkeeper Mike Maignan made crucial saves which helped Milan obtain the full three points in Florence against Vincenzo Italiano's at the Artemio Franchi stadium. Once again, the 28-year-old Frenchman proved how valuable he is to the team and why extending his contract is a fundamental target for the AC Milan management.
As reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the issue of renewing his contract is always on the table for the club. The deal expires in 2026. The French goalkeeper wants a significant increase in salary to extend. Currently, he earns 3.2 million euros per season, he now asks for double that, to earn as much as Leao, the highest-paid Rossoneri in the Milan squad (a fixed part of around 5-6 million euros, with bonuses rising up to 7).
It remains to be seen whether they consider the Portuguese's contract an exception to the salary cap "constructed" in recent years, or if they will be willing to accept this request. Soon the negotiation between the parties will intensify because the AC Milan executives know well that they cannot start the new season without the eventual signature of Maignan.
There is also always strong interest from Bayern Munich in the former Lille player, seeing him as Neuer's successor, but Milan could only initiate a sale if an offer close to 100 million euros were to arrive.
