In his first season in Italy, Tijjani Reijnders did prove that he is an important player for Milan's midfield. His younger brother, the 23-year-old PEC Zwolle attacking midfieder, Eliano, spoke to Milan News about their relationship. Here are his statements:
Eliano Reijnders, you come from a family of footballers. Your father Martin was a professional. A somewhat predetermined destiny...
"Yes, it's true, when we were kids, we always had a ball at our feet. As children, we admired Messi a lot, and even today, I enjoy watching his feats."
What is your relationship with Tijjani Reijnders like?
"Very good relationship. I consider him my best friend, and we talk every day. His presence is very important for my career as well."
Last summer, there was a big step for him.
"We were extremely happy that a big European club wanted my brother. If you look at his career up to now, you understand that patience and perseverance are rewarded. I am very proud of him, and what he has shown so far has met my expectations. You will see that he will continue like this!"
Do you see yourself in Tijjani's style of play?
"We have different roles, so I would say no. I think Tijjani is truly a box-to-box player who can dictate the game. That's how I see him best on the field."
Is there anything about his playing style that impresses you?
"I always like it when he plays with a smile and truly enjoys himself."
What impression do you have of this Milan from the outside?
"It's a great club where many Dutch players have played in recent years. I think they've had a good season, although they've dropped a few too many points."
Will we see you in Italy, in Serie A, one day?
"It would obviously be very nice. Serie A is a great competition, and I think it's our dream to be able to play together one day! For now, I have to settle for being a spectator at San Siro, where I've been once for Tijjani."
The season is coming to an end, and you both have scored 3 goals each. Do you think you'll beat him? Eliano Reijnders replied:
"I don't know, we certainly haven't bet, and I don't think it's fair either since Tijjani has played more matches this season."
What do you like to do off the field?
"We like to share some games like chess and padel."
