AC Milan will undergo some changes in the coaching position, as Stefano Pioli is set to leave this summer. But, there will also be changes in the squad with the upcoming transfer window.
According to Pianeta Milan, the club wants to narrow the gap with Inter. The work starts in the market, with a budget that should be between 100 and 120 million euros.
In fact, RedBird will allocate 55 million euros for the initial budget as it is generated from the Champions League qualification for the next season. The rest, though, shall come from sales.
In the summer of 2024, Milan will definitively sell Charles De Ketelaere's card to Atalanta, then Alexis Saelemaekers will move to Bologna, also on a permanent move. Following their steps could be Daniel Maldini who is appreciated and wanted by AC Monza.
Already departed - effectively - are Rade Krunić, now confirmed to remain in Fenerbahçe, and Junior Messias, same story with Genoa. Beyond these proceeds, however, the Milan management hopes to significantly increase its budget with the departure of another player. Not one of the 'Big Three' (Mike Maignan, Theo Hernández, and Rafael Leão), but with a good, expensive yet replaceable player, like Ismaël Bennacer. As per the source, his worth is set at around 50 million euros, as per a buyout clause. In addition to that, the Algerian would like to play in the Saudi Pro League.
Milan, in the upcoming summer transfer window, will necessarily need a new central defender and a new striker as well to replace Simon Kjær and Olivier Giroud who will leave for free. Besides, few other positions will need to be strengthened, too.
Clearly, then, depending on what the outgoing market also proposes (for example, if a big offer were to come for a player who isn't currently on the verge of leaving), the strategy could also undergo changes along the way.
For defence, Milan aims to sign Italian central defender Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino. Tottenham's Emerson Royal is also a target to reinforce the right-back position. The main alternatives for these two are Maxence Lacroix from Wolfsburg and Lille's Tiago Santos.
In midfield, the spotlight is on the Monaco star Youssouf Fofana, but the trail leading to Sofyan Amrabat should not be ignored as he is set to return from his loan at Manchester United to Fiorentina, as per reports. Then, Khéphren Thuram of Nice is also possible target.
In attack, the number one target is Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna, followed by Benjamin Šeško, the RB Leipzig gem. As a second striker, Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart and Sevilla's Youssef En-Nesyri are to be closely followed.
