AC Milan has chosen Paulo Fonseca as the coach for the upcoming season, and Fonseca has chosen Milan among the proposals on his table. This was reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning, explaining that the agreement between the parties is very close, with only the final details remaining.
The signatures have not yet been affixed, but the official announcement of the Portuguese's arrival on the Rossoneri bench in place of Stefano Pioli is expected in the coming days.
Many names were linked to the Rossoneri club, but in the end, it was Fonseca who emerged victorious from this race, it seems.
Initially, Milan had chosen Julen Lopetegui, but the strong reaction from the fans caused the Rossoneri management to change their minds. Now the decision has been made to entrust the technical leadership to Fonseca, who preferred the Rossoneri over renewing with Lille and a lucrative offer from Marseille.
The former Roma coach is highly appreciated for his style on and off the field, his offensive football, and his work with young players.
Next week, according to Milan's plans, will be when the agreement with Fonseca is finalised, with the official announcement expected in the first days of June. For the Portuguese coach, a two-year contract with an option for a third year is ready.
How will the fans react to this choice? Tonight at San Siro there will be a first taste on the occasion of the season's last match against Salernitana. It is no secret that Milan fans wanted other profiles, especially Antonio Conte, but they would have also "accepted" other coaches like Conceiçao, Thiago Motta, or De Zerbi.
In the end, it was Fonseca who prevailed, and he will have two important tasks this summer: winning over the fans and building an increasingly competitive Milan together with the club.
