AC Milan has now made its choice regarding the new coach: it will be Paulo Fonseca. The official announcement could arrive next week as a two-year contract plus an option for a third year is ready. The former AS Roma boss will earn a salary set at 2.5 million euros net per season.
This was reported this morning by La Gazzetta dello Sport, which adds that after the official announcement, Fonseca will give his first press conference, where he will introduce himself to the Milan fans and outline his technical project.
Compared to his time at Roma, his staff has changed significantly in recent years: for example, at Lille, the Portuguese coach worked with Paulo Ferreira, a former defender for Porto and Chelsea, and Paulo Mourao could be his fitness coach. In France, he also worked with Stephane Catrina, Karim Hader, Mario Sandua, and Tiago Leal, who was with him at Roma.
While waiting for the official announcement, Fonseca is already working with the Rossoneri management to organise and plan the summer transfer market. The priority is known to be a reliable and strong striker, but the idea is also to sign a right-back, a central defender, and a defensive midfielder.
The hope is to keep all the key players, although, as demonstrated by the Sandro Tonali case last summer, if truly irresistible offers come to Casa Milan, it will be hard to say no.
