This morning, thanks to a report by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Youssouf Fofana's name is back in fashion for the Rossoneri midfield. In reality, it's a solution that Milan has always kept in consideration, but today there are important new developments. Specifically, the Rossoneri might be the only team in Italy still pursuing the player after Juventus has strongly shifted their focus to his compatriot Kephrem Thuram. Therefore, the mission is possible for Milan.
According to the same newspaper this morning, the next few weeks could be decisive for the launch of negotiations between Milan and Monaco. Contacts between the management at Casa Milan and the player's entourage have remained active. In the coming days, considering Fofana is currently playing in the European Championship with France, they will try to find common ground for the Frenchman’s signing and then – always a hot topic – will attempt to reach a final agreement with Monaco.
In fact, Youssouf Fofana is valued at around 25 million euros, but Monaco cannot push too hard because not only does Fofana's contract expire in 2025, but he has also already informed the club that he wants to leave this summer to take the next step in his career.
To convince the 25-year-old player, Milan can play several cards. Two in particular. The first is the undeniable appeal of the Rossoneri club, which fascinates many players worldwide. In a recent interview with MilanNews.it, Fofana stated:
"Everyone knows Milan and its palmarès: it’s a huge club."
Additionally, at Milanello, he would find many French players, including his national teammates Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez. On the other hand, there is also a technical motivation that could lead the French midfielder to favor the Rossoneri destination: while he faces fierce competition in France, at Milan he would have a guaranteed starting spot since there is currently no player in the Rossoneri squad with his characteristics. To build a more balanced team, Fonseca needs a player of this type.
