AC Milan continue to look for reinforcements in the defence. One name on the shortlist is Emerson Royal, who is Tottenham's 25-year-old Brazilian right-back.
In this regard, the profile identified by the Rossoneri club is that of Emerson Royal, a right-back born in 1999 from Tottenham, who had previously been sought by Milan.
According to this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport, the club has received the green light from the player. Recent contacts between the club and the Brazilian’s entourage have confirmed his willingness to move to the Rossoneri: a chance for Emerson to bounce back after spending more time on the bench than on the field last season and not always being in the good graces of Spurs' coach Ange Postecoglou. The Rossoneri management has offered a five-year contract worth three million net per season. Milan has never had real competitors, as only Villarreal showed timid interest, but the opportunity to play in the Champions League, the prestige of the Rossoneri club, and the desire to revive his career convinced Emerson from the start.
18 - 20 million euros could be enough...
Now Milan will have to talk to Tottenham to try to get the club's approval and bring the first summer signing to Fonseca’s court. Historically, negotiating with the Spurs is not straightforward, which is why Milan will leverage the player's preference. There is still a considerable distance between the parties, as the English club initially asked for 25 million, while Milan offered 15 million. The Rossoneri hope to negotiate and reach a middle ground: 18-20 million including bonuses to secure the London-Milan transfer in favor of Royal. The British club may lower the price, having bought Emerson from Barcelona in 2021 for 25 million, and over the seasons, that amount has been largely amortized.
Even with a lower sum, Tottenham would still be able to make a profit, and Milan hopes to play on this aspect. The ideal scenario would be to bring Emerson Royal to Fonseca on the first day of the gathering.
