Paulo Fonseca's adventure at Milan doesn't start in the best way, not really his faults but because of how the management and team are approaching the beginning of this season. For the first time in years, the Rossoneri will begin preparations in a rather surreal atmosphere, with the heart of the fans, the Curva Sud Milano, boycotting the training camp because they are not motivated by how the club is handling this transfer market: No signings and no incoming operations have been completed so far for Milan, partly due to a European Championship that is significantly impacting negotiations to bring the targets identified by the work group formed by Furlani, Ibrahimovic, and Moncada to the Rossoneri.
Paulo Fonseca's first July 8th as a Rossonero starts quite early. The Portuguese coach is expected at Casa Milan at office opening hours to meet with the entire Rossoneri management and review the ongoing transfer market negotiations.
The former Lille coach would have expected to have some new signings already by today, but the European Championship has been a considerable hindrance for the Rossoneri, who is currently rather stagnant in terms of acquisitions. After the summit, around 11 AM CEST, Paulo Fonseca will present himself to the fans and media in a press conference, and then return to Milanello where at 5 PM CEST he will kick off Milan's first training session of the season.
Fonseca's agenda is already quite full for the first day of work in Italy, and so will the upcoming days be. The problem lies in the fact that the Portuguese coach will have to train for about ten days a group that fundamentally will not be his own, as between surplus players and U23 guys, one can count on one hand the players who will then be part of his team next season. The situation becomes more complex as Il Corriere dello Sport points out that no new signings will parade at Milanello this afternoon. The Milanese market index is currently limited to the sole redemption of Alex Jimenez, not exactly ideal considering that the Serie A debut is scheduled in 40 days. The squad has evident gaps, and it is now the management's responsibility to help the Rossoneri coach with the priority acquisition of at least a striker, a defensive midfielder, a right-back, and a central defender.
