Roberto Donadoni, former Milan player and former coach of the Italian National Team, spoke to the microphones of Rai Radio 1 about the use of young players and Italians, also sharing a few words about Milan and Fonseca.
Here are his statements, as relayed via Milan Press:
"The policy within clubs needs to change. In my day, there were a maximum of three foreign players. In our Milan, we had the three Dutch players with whom we won something, and the rest of the team was Italian. Now it's exactly the opposite. We need the willingness to invest in youth academies, in young players, and give them the opportunity to play. There are teams with excellent academies, Atalanta is one of them. But even in the youth teams, there are now 7-8 foreign players."
Donadoni also spoke about Paulo Fonseca's Milan:
"What happened with Leao and Theo was not edifying, and I’m very sorry about it. You need to know how to accept and share things, to understand that a team is made up of many individuals, and all of them must want only the best for the team. These incidents are really bad signs."
