Milan's decision not to dip into the free-agent market after Bennacer's injury is very risky, writes Antonio Vitiello in his editorial piece for Milan News. There is, however, a positive side: giving more space to young players.

In fact, if Kevin Zeroli and Silvano Vos are good, then it’s right to give them opportunities. They will have more responsibilities, and the true quality of these young players will be seen. Vos has made a great impression in his first appearance for Milan Futuro in Serie C, but it's important to remember that he won't be able to play in the Champions League due to regulations. In Europe, the only available player is Zeroli.
The problem is the lack of depth in midfield. There will be many matches to play, and a lot of experience will be needed in some international games. Betting on young players is always a gamble; it can go well, or it can go the opposite way.
In fact, Milan hoped to sell Ismael Bennacer this summer, bringing in around 30 million euros, and focus everything on Manu Koné (who has joined AS Roma last August 30 on loan with a mandatory purchase option) from Borussia Monchengladbach . But nothing concrete came from Saudi Arabia, while Marseille only offered a loan deal.
Bennacer's issue is that he has a net salary of 4 million euros and is often injured. It’s hard to sell him for such high amounts. But in January, he will likely leave, probably on a temporary basis. His time with the Rossoneri seems to be coming to an end.
