Matteo Gabbia's is in a great moment personally. Despite recent negative results of the Rossoneri, he still gave his all on the pitch. Now, he is with the Italy national team.
Since his return from a six-month loan at Villarreal last January, the Gabbia's performance has been steadily improving.
He is currently the most consistent defender in the Rossoneri squad and, in fact, the only one guaranteed a starting spot in Fonseca's eleven.
In September, he scored the winning goal in the derby, and now, in October, he received his first call-up to the senior national team, though he has yet to make his official debut.
Next up is his contract renewal.
Corriere dello Sport reports on the negotiations for the extension, with today’s headline reading:
"Gabbia, Milan opens talks for renewal. First contacts between the club and the defender's agent."
His agent, Tullio Tinti, said yesterday: "Renewal? They (Milan) called me, and we'll talk about it soon. He's very happy, he's worn the Milan shirt since he was a child, so he's super happy to extend and be an important player for the Rossoneri."
The newspaper writes that the idea is to extend the contract until 2029. The player would like to raise his annual salary to 2 million euros net per season.
