Coach Daniel Lowell Peterson, the legendary basketball coach of Olimpia Milano, was recently a guest on Gianluca Gazzoli’s podcast, BSMT - Basement. Among the many topics discussed, Coach Peterson also spoke about the possibility he once had of coaching AC Milan before Arrigo Sacchi took overn not a concrete offer, but the American was approached as a possible option.
Coach Dan Peterson’s words on the matter:

"An offer from Milan? They didn’t offer me the position, but they sounded me out for the possibility. I was at the Teatro Manzoni, hosting the Oscar dello Sport. I had Pelé to my left and Maradona to my right. Before going on air, Bruno Bogarelli and Galliani came to my dressing room and said, 'Dan, Berlusconi would like to talk to you about the possibility of coaching Milan next season.' I replied, 'Guys, I’m honoured. I have my own team, I’m not going to undermine them. If you can wait until the end of the season, we can discuss it thoroughly.'"
He added:
"Obviously, in the meantime, they hired Arrigo Sacchi. Every time I see Galliani, I joke with him: 'You made a huge mistake.' He replies, 'Dear Dan, we would have had the same results with you.' When I see Sacchi, I tell him, 'You were so lucky.'"
